The Islesboro Preschool re-opened our doors on June 24th for a summer session with a smaller number of students and strict new safety and sanitary guidelines to ensure the health of our students, their families, and the wider community during the Covid-crisis. As a teacher (and a parent) it was extremely heartwarming to see our students jump back into school without skipping a beat. They could not wait to see each other and play together like old times (even with new safety guidelines put into place). Children really are resilient!
This summer our preschool has been concentrating on our “backyard”. We have been planting our garden with help from Nancy Wuori, learning about butterflies and insects, watching virtual- IIT explorations with Chloe Joule, making fairy houses, exploring our marsh, and making nature crafts. With the nice weather we have been able to engage in a lot of water play and with the aid of a new backyard tent we have been spending as much time outside as possible.
The staff and board of the Islesboro Preschool are proud to serve our community in a time of crisis by providing high-quality childcare so that working families can get back to work, and we are all very happy to be back in our “house”. We would like to thank everyone for making our summer program the best that it can be!
